Being overweight can contribute to many health problems including high blood pressure, diabetes, bronchitis and joint problems. The aim is to change your lifestyle and eating and drinking habits. Some useful tips on healthy eating.
- Eat three moderate meals a day
- Choose low fat foods, grilled, steamed or poached and eat less fatty and fried foods such as chips
- Use all fats, margarines and butters as sparingly as possible
- Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and salads and choose fresh fruit instead of pudding
- Fibre-rich foods such as wholemeal bread and pasta, baked potatoes and high fibre breakfast cereals should be included in the diet
- Drink plenty of fluids like water and low calorie soft drinks and cut down on alcohol
- Avoid sweets, crisps, cakes, biscuits, pastries and pies, as they are all high in calories.
